Cast iron gutters and pipes enhance the appearance of both traditional and contemporary projects whilst providing significant benefits over other rainwater systems. Cast iron guttering, pipes and hopper heads offer unrivalled strength, durability, low operational noise levels, environmental benefits and a lifespan that makes the installation of these products a once-in-a-generation event.

A gutter is a cast iron trough with a socket at one end and a spigot at the other for making internal and external connections to other gutter lengths and fittings, for example, outlets, that connect to a rainwater pipe. Gutters collect rainfall as it runs off the roof and allows the water to drain away from the fabric of the building into the drain pipes and then the drains. Cast iron gutters should be straight as if badly warped this makes installation problematic. As with cast iron rainwater pipes, they should have an even and consistent finish that will allow for the unobstructed flow of rainwater. Both our cast iron plain half-round and beaded half-round gutters are cast centrifugally to ensure that the gutters are straight and have an even metal thickness.

    More Details

You might be considering other materials for your project but did you realise that there are a number of significant benefits of choosing a cast iron rainwater system that go beyond a traditional appearance.

Cast iron has stood the test of time and is ideally suited to both rainwater and soil drainage systems. It offers many benefits to not only yourself but also your contractor; these include:

Long Life- when correctly installed and maintained, cast iron drainage systems will last the life of the building, whether domestic, public, industrial or commercial. Cast iron has a high resistant to damage from hot liquids and does not warp or fade in the sun; protective primer and high specification paint coatings also provide improved performance when exposed to aggressive substances. Physical properties are retained throughout the lifetime of cast iron gutters and pipes, and standards remain constant, which means extending or repairing existing systems is remarkably easy.

Low Maintenance – you might be surprised to know that cast iron requires little ongoing maintenance, annual inspections of cast iron gutters and cast iron pipes are recommended but remedial action is rarely required. Known as a fit and forget material, cast iron requires minimal maintenance which is especially important when pipework is concealed, inaccessible and when maintenance would be disruptive to the occupants of the building.
